The first few minutes after waking set the tone for how your nervous system runs the rest of the day.
- Wait at least 15 minutes after waking before checking messages or social media
- Use that time to stretch, hydrate, or simply sit in silence
- Notice how differently the morning feels compared to reaching for your phone first
Athletes carry physical tension that's easy to ignore during the day but shows up at night as restlessness.
- Lie down and slowly bring attention from your feet up to your head
- Notice tight spots without trying to fix them, just observe
- Pair with slow breathing for 5 minutes before sleep
Reflection shouldn't only happen after big wins or losses. Regular, low-stakes journaling builds self-awareness over time.
- Write 2–3 sentences after each training session: how you felt, not just what you did
- Track patterns over weeks rather than judging any single entry
- Keep it private and honest, this is for you, not a coach or audience
Identity that's built entirely around performance is fragile. A hobby, friendship, or interest outside sport gives you somewhere to stand when results wobble.
- Choose one activity each week that has nothing to do with competing or training
- Treat it as non-negotiable, the same way you would a training session
- Let it be something you do for enjoyment alone, not for progress or metrics
